  • MG HS SUV awarded 5 Star Euro NCAP rating
  • Outstanding performance across all safety areas
  • HS joins award-winning MG4 Electric with highest safety rating
  • MG’s new and highly-popular HS SUV – launched this autumn – has already secured the highest possible safety rating from Euro NCAP.

Euro NCAP awarded the MG HS 1.5T a 5 Star rating with the model excelling in both adult and child occupant safety evaluation tests as well as having features designed to protect vulnerable road users.

The MG HS joins the multi award-winning MG4 Electric which also holds a 5 Star Euro NCAP safety rating as well as being awarded top marks by Green NCAP, the industry-leading European emissions assessment program.

Euro NCAP commented: “The last time Euro NCAP tested MG’s largest vehicle, the HS, was in 2019 when it received a five-star rating. Euro NCAP’s protocols have been upgraded twice since then, and MG has ensured that this mid-size SUV has kept abreast of developments, with new technologies to ensure a 2024 5-star result. This demonstrates the continuing influence of Euro NCAP on vehicle safety, and the willingness of manufacturers such as MG to respond, pushing their cars to ever-higher levels of performance.

For example, the car has good protection for pedestrians and cyclists as well as an effective autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system that responds well to a range of vulnerable road users. The car also includes protection against ‘dooring’ where a door is suddenly opened in the path of a cyclist approaching from behind. All in all, under Euro NCAP’s 2024 testing program the car receives an impressive five-star Euro NCAP rating.”

All models in the HS range benefit from an enhanced MG Pilot package which includes key features such as Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System, Blind Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, Driver Attention Alert, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Door Open Warning as standard. MG HS DCT models are also equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control and  Traffic Jam Assist.

Unveiled at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the all-new HS petrol and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models also underline MG’s commitment to offering the best possible overall value in the SUV marketplace with a generous 7-year/150,000-km manufacturer’s warranty.

Since 1997, the European New Car Assessment Program has been the benchmark for the safety of new vehicles on sale in Europe – helping consumers to make informed decisions when choosing their next vehicle. Euro NCAP performs comprehensive, objective and independent safety evaluations, now taking into account standard assist systems and passive safety.

Past and present vehicle test results are available at www.euroncap.com.

Amsterdam, 12 November 2024 – MG Motor is thrilled to announce that its all-new MG3 Hybrid+ has been nominated as a finalist for the AUTOBEST Best Buy Car of Europe 2025 award, joining an exclusive lineup of vehicles recognized for delivering the best value, innovation, and quality in Europe.

One of the most respected distinctions in the automotive industry evaluated by the prestigious AUTOBEST jury — a panel of 31 automotive journalists from across Europe — the nomination recognizes MG’s efforts in advancing performance, sustainability, and accessible design in a rapidly evolving market.

“With all the attributes to lead its class, the MG3 Hybrid+ offers customers a standout combination of efficiency and performance powered by MG’s innovative Hybrid+ powertrain,” said William Wang, CEO of MG Motor Euope, MG Motor UK and MG Motor CEE. “It’s a refined, well-equipped vehicle that also brings MG’s signature fun-to-drive philosophy to the market, featuring premium interior features alongside the advanced MG Pilot safety suite.”

The MG3 Hybrid+ represents a new chapter in MG’s storied history. MG’s state-of-the-art Hybrid+ powertrain technology made its debut on the all-new MG3, and is the first conventional, non-plug-in hybrid system fitted to an MG model. The MG3 Hybrid+ will now be evaluated in a series of extensive testing and real-world driving trials alongside a selection of other nominated vehicles, each vying for the prestigious title.

The rigorous evaluation process assesses nominated vehicles based on vehicle design, comfort, safety, technology, connectivity, eco-friendliness, running costs and overall value for money —all critical aspects for today’s consumer.

  • Festival launched with Duke of Richmond driving his grandfather’s MG C-Type
  • MG Cyber GTS Concept makes dramatic global debut
  • EXE181 EV land speed record concept unveiled
  • Central Feature celebrates 100 years of remarkable MG cars
  • MG has been marking its first 100 years in some style at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the past and the future combining to create a memorable, moving showcase. The Duke of Richmond opened the Festival of Speed by leading a unique parade of old and new MG’s past Goodwood House and then up the famous hill climb.

His Grace drove one his grandfather’s iconic, racing MG C-Type race cars which competed at the Brooklands Double 12 in 1931. Joining the C-Type was a unique gathering of cars representing MG’s finest moments on both the road and track. The new MG Cyberster convertible lined-up alongside the MGA Le Mans, MGC GTS Sebring and MG 6R4.

MG’s dynamic future was showcased with a global debut at the Festival of Speed; the dramatic MG Cyber GTS Concept broke cover for the first time with Jozef Kaban, Vice President of MG’s Global Design Centre introducing the concept to the Duke of Richmond.

The MG Cyber GTS Concept pays homage to the MGC GTS Sebring, which secured the highest ever factory MG result at the famous 12 hour race in 1968 in the prototype class and which is a key part of MG’s identity as the quintessential British sporting marque. Just six examples were made and the car nicknamed ‘Mable’ piloted by the legendary Paddy Hopkirk and Andrew Hedges would finish in 10th place in the overall standings. Finishing third in its category at Sebring, the two cars ahead of the plucky MG were exotic racing prototypes unrelated to any road-going sports cars.

To celebrate MG’s 100 Anniversary, MG’s designers have created a special concept that both captures the spirit of the MGC GTS Sebring whilst delivering a rear-wheel drive car utilising the MG of today’s advanced, high-performance EV powertrains. The Cyber GTS Concept explores the further potential for MG creating a new future for a GTS model in the EV era and follows in the footsteps of the Cyberster which is the world’s first open-top EV two-seater to go into production.

The MG stand also features the stunning EXE181, a unique piece of automotive art from the MG London-based design team led by Carl Gotham.

The EXE181 is inspired by the original MG EX181 which broke a whole range of small-engine records in 1957, and again in 1959, and the land speed record in 1957 when British drivers Sir Stirling Moss and Phil Hill triumphed at the iconic Bonneville Salt Flats. MG secured the Class F world record with a recorded speed of 245.64mph/395.31 kmh.

Known as the ‘Roaring Raindrop’, the successful EX181 attempt underlined the full capabilities of an MG production engine. This engine was a 1.5 litre MGA Twin Cam with Shorrock Supercharger and twin SU carburettors and the engine would be capable of an astonishing 290bhp at 7,300rpm.

The original EX181 represented much of the buccaneering spirit of MG, a British sports car manufacturer travelling to the other side of the earth and taking on the world’s best, using a small displacement production engine to reach new heights.

EXE181 takes its inspiration from the ‘Roaring Raindrop’ and then boldly reimagines what an electric MG land speed record would look like today. It is faithful to many of its illustrious predecessor’s key features and this includes the highly distractive centre spine, a highly-compact single seat cabin, no shut lines and an open canopy.

The use of the two dominant colours at Bonneville, white for the salt flats and blue for the huge, open skies is a further tribute to the Moss-Hill car.

A key element of EXE181 was to design with purpose and authenticity. This means proving the aerodynamics of  EXE181 which has a drag coefficient of 0.181 and a modern, connected user interface inside the cabin.

Jozef Kaban described the project as a unique opportunity to pay homage to the pioneering spirit of MG whilst exploring the future with a dramatic interpretation of a potential EV land speed challenger that would sport the brand’s distinctive octagon logo.

MG celebrations also took place in front of Goodwood House where Gerry Judah’s beautiful Festival of Speed Central Feature showcases the Cyberster alongside one of its most illustrious and loved predecessors, the MGB. In typical Goodwood-style, there was a sensational fireworks display to mark the moment.

MG brand made a spectacular entrance at the 2024 Beijing International Auto Show.

The global debut of the brand-new electric concept supercar, the EXE181, served as a nod to humanity’s quest for speed in the 20th century, bridging past and future in a dialogue across time. Additionally, the “Cyberster Global Journey” across the Eurasian continent beautifully concluded, wrapping up nine months of global romance and adventure into the final chapter.

Electric Concept Car EXE181: A Tribute to Speed and Innovation – Bridging Heritage and Future

MG has a long-standing history of prioritizing speed, from its early success on racetracks and setting speed records in the 1920s and 30s, to defining the Roadster in the 50s and 60s, and inspiring innovation with its mid-rear engine roadsters at the century’s turn.

The legendary “Roaring Raindrop” MG EX181. This iconic vehicle, known for setting an unparalleled speed record of 410.5 km/h in 1959, held its ground until 2014 before the record was surpassed by Bugatti. Phil Hill, the driver, became the first American F1 World Champion, cementing his and the car’s legacy in speed record history.

Commemorating its historical achievements in “land speed” records, the launch of the electric supercar MG EXE181 by MG’s London Advanced Design Center represents both a monumental tribute and a pivotal step into the electrified frontier, embodying the brand’s enduring pursuit of speed and marking a new chapter in its legacy.

Engineered to defy limits, the EXE181 aims for a top speed of 415 km/h, coupled with a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.181, underscoring MG’s commitment to redefine velocity in the electric era. This ambition catapults the EXE181 into the elite “Sub-1 second 0-100 km/h Club”, bridging MG’s storied history with the promise of a future where innovation and speed converge.

With its cutting-edge technology and aerodynamic prowess, this electric supercar is primed to make a mark at its global debut at the Beijing Auto Show, followed by an anticipated appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2024.

    Legacy Journey and Partnerships

Following the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July last year, the journey embarked upon by British Adventure Rose and Hugo Turner in the MG Cyberster marked the start of the Legendary Journey. Their voyage from the UK, across the Eurasian landmass, culminating at the Beijing Auto Show, has excited MG enthusiasts worldwide.

In terms of partnerships, MG has several collaborations with famous football clubs like Arsenal, OL Club, and Bayer 04 Leverkusen. In addition, MG will become the main sponsor of the Goodwood Festival this July, taking over from Porsche. With its 100th year anniversary, MG aims to keep making high-quality products and services to satisfy its global fans and move towards another century of excellence in the car industry.

  • MG Motor to star in the iconic Central Feature at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024, as the brand celebrates 100 years
  • Highly anticipated MG Cyberster roadster will spearhead Gerry Judah’s sculptural masterpiece
  • MG has announced it will headline the legendary Central Feature display at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, celebrating the centenary of the iconic motoring brand.

MG’s highly anticipated, Cyberster EV roadster will headline Gerry Judah’s annual sculptural masterpiece, with the company taking centre stage in front of Goodwood House for the first time.

Arriving later on this year the Cyberster is a new generation of performance car that marks an electrifying milestone in MG’s storied history. Its central position at the world’s most prestigious motoring event promises to be one of the most exciting moments in MG’s centenary celebrations in the UK and further afield.

The Duke of Richmond, founder of the Festival of Speed, said:

“Following the world debut of the striking Cyberster at the 2023 Festival of Speed, we are delighted that MG are returning to Goodwood this year to celebrate their centenary in style with their first Central Feature. It is set to be a fitting tribute to the first 100 years of one of Britain’s oldest and most popular manufacturers, which has enjoyed a long association with Goodwood.

MGs were almost ever-present at the circuit from 1948-1966, and before that, my grandfather ran the MG team in the 1930s, winning the famous Double-Twelve Hour Race at Brooklands in 1931. He was fascinated by their light weight, simplicity and clever engineering – characteristics which still underpin the brand today. MG’s 100-year history combined with their continuous drive for innovation, aligns perfectly with this year’s ‘Horseless to Hybrid’ theme, which recognises the advances in technology and power that have shaped motorsport over the last 130 years.”

Aiden He, CEO of MG Nordic & BeNeLux, commented:

“One hundred years ago, MG pioneered the creation of the popular sports car, turning dreams into reality for millions of enthusiasts around the world. We’re still committed to that founding vision of delivering accessible, innovative, and truly engaging cars. The Cyberster underlines that commitment with a high-performance EV convertible which we hope will have the same impact as its much-loved forerunners.”

“The Festival of Speed is the perfect occasion to celebrate our heritage in our home market where the MG story began, whilst also providing a perfect platform from which to demonstrate the dynamic future of the brand on a world stage.”

To fire-up the partnership with the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Cyberster was joined outside Goodwood House by one of its most famous predecessors, a beautiful 1964 Mk1 MGB Roadster with a 1.8 litre BMC engine. The two MG roadsters from different eras are both set to play a prominent role at the Festival of Speed.

MG will also return to the famous hill climb in 2024 and the company will announce further debuts destined for the Festival of Speed nearer the time.

More details will be released ahead of the event, which takes place at the Goodwood Estate, South Sussex, on the South Coast of England, from 11th to 14th July 2024. Tickets for the world’s largest automotive garden party are available from goodwood.com and the Ticket Office can be contacted on 01243 755 055.

  • MG3 launches with Hybrid+ technology
  • All-new B-segment hatchback features high levels of equipment
  • Engineered with MG’s ‘fun-to-drive’ spirit
  • An advanced hybrid from MG

The all-new MG3 is a technologically advanced hybrid B-segment hatchback, offering a combination of performance, efficiency, and refinement.

For the first time the MG3 will be available to customers across Europe, having solely been offered in the UK previously. Three specifications will be available in Europe at launch, all sharing the all-new Hybrid+ powertrain. MG’s work on this hybrid system sees a larger battery fitted, and a more powerful electric motor, setting new standards in the B-segment.

The B-segment hatchback is more spacious than the outgoing model, while retaining the compact footprint that makes the MG3 such a popular model in the UK, particularly for those mainly covering urban driving routes. Boasting high levels of interior equipment and space – matching the best-in-class – the MG3 Hybrid+ offers customers both practicality and efficiency. Value is further boosted with MG’s trademark seven-year/150,000 km warranty included as standard.

With all the attributes to become a leader in its class, the all-new MG3 will offer customers a combination of efficiency and performance with MG’s exciting Hybrid+ powertrain,” comments Aiden He, CEO of MG Nordic & Benelux, “More refined, yet also bringing MG’s fun-to-drive philosophy to the market, the MG3 is excellently equipped, both with premium interior features and MG Pilot safety systems.”

    MG3 at a glance

    • Advanced hybrid powertrain offers customers economy, refinement, and performance
    • Fastest accelerating hybrid B-segment hatchback delivers real-world performance benefits
    • Larger battery capacity than rivals enables zero-emission running for longer
    • Versatile hybrid system includes separate generator, allowing for multiple hybrid modes
    • Range of trim levels offers customers choice and exceptional value
    • Dual-screen interior boosts premium feel in MG3
    • MG iSMART and MG Pilot offer connectivity and improved safety
    • New, larger dimensions include increased occupant space and load area

    State-of-the-art Hybrid+ powertrain

MG’s Hybrid+ powertrain technology makes its debut on the all-new MG3, and is the first conventional, non-plug-in hybrid system fitted to an MG model. At its core, there are five key elements to the new Hybrid+ system – engine, transmission, battery, electric motor, and generator.

Despite focusing on efficiency, the electrified technology naturally delivers excellent performance benefits. MG’s Hybrid+ powertrain makes the MG3 the fastest accelerating hybrid B-segment model in the class, with a 0-100km/h sprint time of 8.0 seconds. Accelerating to highway speeds – from 80-120km/h – is equally impressive, at just 5.0 seconds.

Producing a combined 143kW, the MG3 Hybrid+ returns economy figures of 4.4l/100km and 100g/km CO2*. This is aided by a 1.83kWh battery, allowing for an extensive electric-only driving range – significantly boosting efficiency.

The all-new MG3 features a 75kW 1.5-litre petrol engine and 100kW electric motor, as well as separate generator motor which enables a wide variety of powertrain operating modes. This not only provides class-leading performance figures for a hybrid B-segment hatchback, but also allows for flexible running no matter the driving environment.

This enables the MG3 to be driven in the following drive modes, each automatically selected by the Hybrid+ system:

EV – Running on electric-only power for as long as charge allows

Series – Engine runs through to the generator, which powers the electric motor for drive

Series and Charge – Series driving, plus topping-up the battery when under low-load

Drive and Charge – Engine drives the wheels, while also charging the battery through the generator

Parallel – Both engine and electric motor power the wheels

The four-cylinder 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine produces 75kW (102 PS), offering exceptionally high thermal efficiency at 41%. Combined with the 100kW (136 PS) electric motor, the Hybrid+ system provides a broad range of power across the rev range.

With a more powerful motor installed, much of the high-load driving – accelerating for example – can be carried out under electric power, with the petrol engine seamlessly supporting or taking over at higher speeds.

The engine is connected to a three-speed automatic transmission, which allows for both an efficient and enjoyable driving experience. Crucially, the MG3 offers responsive acceleration, while also providing smooth and refined shifting.

Drivers can tailor the MG3’s responsiveness with the choice of three driving modes – Eco, Standard, and Sport. Eco mode is calibrated for optimum fuel economy and provides gentle throttle response for drivers, while Standard provides a blend between economy and performance, and works well for most trip types. Sport sees a more responsive calibration, getting the best out of the combined power output, delivering some of the best performance figures in the hybrid B-segment hatchback class.

    Dynamic handling and refinement

The all-new MG3 offers a dynamic driving experience, as well as high levels of comfort, thanks to the collaborative work that MG’s engineers in both Europe and China have put in, fine-tuning the chassis and suspension for different markets.

With compact proportions and an agile set-up, the MG3 offers a refined drive but keeps MG’s ‘fun-to-drive’ ethos at its core. It benefits from the use of new ultra-high stiffness components in the chassis, while suspension elements have been designed to reduce weight and improve grip for both athletic handling and a comfortable ride.

As well as offering an ideally balanced set-up between comfort and dynamism, thanks in part to the new hybrid powertrain with its ability to run on electric power for short periods, the all-new MG3 also delivers new highs in refinement and noise suppression. Engineers have focused on engine and suspension mounts, sound absorbing materials, and transmission design to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness to provide a premium driving experience.

    Outstanding technology and equipment

The all-new MG3 arrives with three specifications for European customers – Standard, Comfort, and Luxury. Each of these are set to challenge other B-segment models in terms of technology and features offered as standard.

A standout feature for customers is the twin-screen cockpit. Drivers have a 7’’ digital instrument screen, as well as a 10.25’’ central infotainment system. Graphics and responsiveness have been enhanced by MG engineers for the twin floating screens, and a bank of piano-key switches has been retained on the centre console to maximise safety and convenience while driving.

Satellite navigation is fitted as standard, as is smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. MG iSMART provides levels of connectivity and features to MG3 customers that would more commonly be associated with premium models.

Other equipment highlights include air conditioning, six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth connection, four USB ports, and rear parking sensors and camera. Higher trim levels add leather-style upholstery, keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, and 360-degree camera.

The MG3 also benefits from the latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Increased safety is delivered through MG Pilot technology, which includes Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, and Traffic Jam Assist.

    A new and contemporary look

New from the ground up, the MG3 is both longer and wider than the model it replaces, freeing up more interior space for occupants, as well as offering the largest boot space in the hybrid B-segment class.

Designed by MG’s Shanghai studio, the all-new MG3 has a range of styling features for customers to choose from, including alloy wheels, LED headlights, and a new colour palette.

There are seven paint schemes available for European customers: Pebble Black, Dover White, Cosmic Silver, Pastel Yellow, Diamond Red, Hampstead Grey, Como Blue.
